Alois Carigiet illustrated and wrote several award-winning children's books, some authored by writer Selina Chnz. These books have been translated in many languages.

Here are the original German and English titles. Three of the English titles are again in print, two of which are distributed in the US.

Carigiet also illustrated a few other less-known books, now out of print.

Alois Carigiet [kariˈdʒ(j)ɛt] (* 30. August 1902 Trun, Graubünden; † 1. August 1985 Trun) war ein Schweizer Maler, Zeichner, Lithograf und Kinderbuchautor.

Alois Carigiet war der ältere Bruder des späteren Schauspielers Zarli Carigiet. Er kam 1911 mit seinen Eltern nach Chur, absolvierte eine Lehre als Dekorationsmaler und ging dann nach Zürich, wo er in einem Werbeatelier arbeitete. 1927 konnte er ein eigenes Atelier eröffnen, in welchem er für ein Kabarett Bühnenbilder und Kostüme entwarf. 1939 folgte der Wechsel vom Grafiker zum freischaffenden Künstler, als er nach Obersaxen umsiedelte.

Dort arbeitete er auch an der Illustration von Kinderbüchern. Am bekanntesten wurde der Schellenursli (Text von Selina Chönz), mit dem der Engadiner Brauch Chalandamarz weltbekannt wurde. Die folgenden Kinderbücher wie Flurina und das Wildvöglein erreichten nicht ganz diesen Bekanntheitsgrad, sind aber aus künstlerischer Sicht nicht weniger wertvoll.

Es folgten Ausstellungen in Schaffhausen, Solothurn und Genf. 1950 zog er wieder nach Zürich. 1956 erstellte er im Auftrag der Brauerei Falken (Schaffhausen) die Fassadenmalerei des "Schwarzen Adler" in Stein am Rhein. 1960 kehrte er in seine Bündner Heimat zurück und widmete sich weiter der Illustration von Büchern. Daneben schrieb er auch selbst Kinderbücher.
